So someone who describes themselves as “Jewish Lib #antisemitism (incl #anti-Zionism), #Israel” on their Twitter page and who posts mostly Zionist pro-Israeli and borderline racist content has just tweeted “Kumbaya” to SFTUK and some UK govt twitter accounts.
I’m confused. How do I respond to that? So many issues!
1. Kumbaya? From what I know Kumbaya is a Creole term, not sure what it’s doing here. I’ll just leave it at that.
It reminds me of when white people insist on tagging any Tibet related stuff with “Namaste”.
2. I’m getting really tired of some Tibet supporters having no general liberation politics, or in any case being selective in their support for anti-colonial struggles. You cannot be anti-Palestinian and pro-Tibetan. It just doesn’t work that way. Their struggles are just as legitimate, and take that from an anti-Zionist Jew.
If you cannot support the idea that all peoples have the right to be free from colonial oppression, then I’m sorry but I don’t want your support.
There are a lot more things I could go into (not in the least about including anti-Zionism into antisemitism, but that’s beyond the scope of this blog!)
DISCLAIMER: as usual this is my personal opinion!
